Nǐ hǎo, party pals. This week’s Sally Award for the best party look of the week goes to leggy model, Karolina Kurkova, in a custom Tommy Hilfiger mini dress and Giuseppe Zanotti heels at the Met Gala in New York on Monday night. On a red carpet filled with fabulous frocks (as well as a few that were too conspicuous or screamed the “Chinese Whispers” theme a bit too loudly), Karolina achieved true yin-yang fashion perfection. This red-hot look was perfect for the themed occasion, but you can also see Karolina wearing it to another soirée, proof that a themed party look hasn’t crossed into the costume zone.
Karolina’s selection of custom Giuseppe Zanotti shoes for the Met Gala
Karolina was intimately involved in the design of this dress, and we applaud her decision to go with crimson and gold, the two most significant colors in Chinese culture. (Red symbolizes good fortune and joy, and gold or yellow, the most prestigious color in China, signifies good luck.) Karolina had three pairs of custom-made Giuseppe Zanotti shoes made for the occasion, and we’re kicking up our heels that she picked the stilettos. They added a delicate elegance, whereas the caged options would have given the eye a bit too much fashion to digest.
We also loved that Karolina resisted the temptation to go all matchy-matchy with her nail and lip color. The deep plum shades she chose added depth and richness and a luxurious touch of color relief. Well done, doll.
