It’s time to present another Sally Award – our exclusive award for a truly smashing party look – and this one goes to actress Cate Blanchett, who was fabulously frocked at Sunday night’s Academy Awards in an Armani Privé seafoam green gown with hand-sewn clusters of Swarovski crystals and feathers.
Honestly, how could we resist? It’s as if two of our favorite 2014 Oscar dresses – Lupita Nyong’o’s plunging blue Prada gown and Cate Blanchett’s Swarovski crystal-embellished Armani Privé frock – had a beautiful baby.

Cate complemented the fanciful feathered gown with a flock of jewels from Tiffany & Co.’s 2016 collection – a platinum and diamond starfish cuff, a 2.3 carat diamond cocktail ring and a pair of $125,000 diamond earrings that smartly echoed the shape of the gown’s plunging neckline. Giuseppe Zanotti shoes and a Roger Vivier clutch in matching hues perfectly completed the look. Inspired? Here are seven fête-chic ways – from $100 to $6.500 – to channel Cate’s Sally Award-winning Oscar style at an upcoming spring soirée:
- Stephen Webster white gold and diamond feather earrings
- Elie Saab silk gown
- Rhinestone floral cuff bracelet
- Four-carat simulated diamond cocktail ring in white gold
- Basix Black Label floral appliqué tulle gown
- Jimmy Choo box feather and metal party clutch
- Alexander McQueen silk chiffon gown
For Cate’s maquillage, celebrity makeup artist Jeanine Lobell used mauve and nude hues on Cate’s eyes, cheeks and lips. To give Cate’s eyes a shimmery effect, Jeanine swept Giorgio Armani Eye Tint #8 across her lids and added Eye Tint #10 to her lash line and crease for definition. To give Cate a plummy glow, Jeanine used Giorgio Armani Cheek Fabric Blush in #506 on her cheeks. Jeanine lined and filled Cate’s lips with the subtle, nude-hued Rouge d’Armani Lipstick in #103. Sheer perfection.
