Lucy Sykes Rellie

Doll, grab your gimlet and come meet our lovely friend, Lucy Sykes Rellie. Lucy is a British-born fashion designer and salonniere extraordinaire who lives in New York and serves as the fashion director of Rent the Runway, a chic destination for party dresses and accessories. Prior to joining Rent the Runway, Lucy was the fashion director at Marie Claire and the fashion editor at Town & Country as well as a creative consultant to brands including Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, eBay and Cookie magazine. As if that weren’t enough, Lucy is a soon-to-be novelist. Her first book, which will be published by Doubleday and released in May, is about a fashion magazine editor-in-chief who comes back from a sabbatical to find her old assistant is now her boss and her magazine is now an app. Ooh la la. Sounds fun and dishy. Anyway, come listen in, darlin’. This dame knows a thing or two about how to throw a chic fête and she’s sharing her secrets.

Your entertaining style?
I adore having good friends over to my cottage at the beach. I serve simple, fresh, home-cooked comfort foods such as roast chicken, lamb, farm stand vegetables and Eton mess with strawberries. I love cooking so much that I do tend to disappear quite a bit so I can check on the food. For the table, I use an old-fashioned white linen table cloth and my great aunt’s old non-matching silver. I put garden flowers mixed with lavender and mint in an old champagne bucket and place tiny candles on sprinkled lavender.

A favorite party treasure?
I have a set of vintage cocktail glasses from the 1950s that I got on eBay that I use for serving French 75s, my favorite drink.
