Bronson van Wyck, Barada Ndiaye, and Edgardo Osorio
Event designer Bronson van Wyck, the mastermind behind parties for everyone from P. Diddy and Aby Rosen to Daphne Guinness and Madonna, hosted a bash of his own on Mykonos last weekend that may well join the Surrealist Ball, Le Bal Oriental, and Poiret’s Thousand and Second Night party on the list of the best costume fêtes in history.
Called the Homeric Ball, Bronson’s epic bacchanalia, a celebration of his 44th birthday, was a Herculean hosting effort. From the location—the ruins of a Doric temple on a cliff overlooking the Aegean Sea—to the food, wine, and entertainment, every detail was perfect, underscoring van Wyck’s position as a titan of party planning.
Paris Hilton and Inga Rubenstein
Bronson’s closest friends flew in from around the world to celebrate. Among the gods, goddesses, and sirens in attendance were Paris Hilton and Meredith Melling, both of whom dressed as Helen of Troy; Zachary Iscol, who came as Menelaus; Dr. Sasha Heinz, who arrived as Medusa complete with gilded bronze snakes; and Kalliope Karella, who arrived as her namesake muse.
David Ganek, Stephen Sherrill, Peter Soros, Mario Calvo-Platero, Earle Mack,
Luis Fernández, and Charles Ayres
Others who made the odyssey to Mykonos for the bash were Indré and Justin Rockefeller; Jill Kargman; Emilia and Pepe Fanjul; Peter Soros and Electra Toub; and Carol and Earle Mack. Local VIPs, including the island’s governor and mayor, also attended.
Muses Danielle Ganek, Sara Ayres, Ariadne Calvo-Platero, Electra Toub, Lillian Fernandez, Kitty Sherrill, Carol Mack, and Peggy Siegal
Bronson, who has always been inspired by Greek mythology, was aptly attired as Dionysus, the god of wine and ecstasy.
The party featured a secret performance by Duran Duran, which brought down the house. The band winked at rumors that Madonna was on the island, teasing the crowd by starting their set with a rendition of “Holiday.”
Flo Rida and Lydia Fenet
Also performing were Kimberly Nichole and Flo Rida, who pulled Lydia Fenet up on the stage to dance the night away.
Χρόνια Πολλά, Bronson. Here’s to a 45th year filled with grapes, glee, and good times.
